About John G. Alden and His Yacht Designs

The Alden Design Office was founded by John G. Alden in 1909 and his design office was, by 1932, known worldwide in part due to his "Malabar" design's success on the offshore racing scene.

John Alden is probably best known for his fast and seaworthy offshore schooners but he designed a broad range of exceptional boats that today have become true classics that turn heads as do many of their contemporaries that bear his name.

The designs featured on this web site is only a small selection of the almost 1000 designs he produced and the several hundred more produced after he retired so please don't hesitate contacting us if you can't find what you are looking for.

Tillotson Corp, the parent corporation of John G. Alden Inc. of MA has decided to donate the John G. Alden collection of designs to MIT's Hart Nautical Collection. The transfer is expected to be completed over the next 2 to 3 years.
